The K-20 Initiative
Internet2's K20 Initiative works to bring innovators in K-12, community colleges, universities, libraries, and museums into appropriate regional, national, and international advanced networking efforts, via the "Sponsored Education Group Participant" (SEGP) process.
Its goals include encouraging partnerships among these education institutions, the private sector, and government; enhancing teaching and learning by facilitating projects that explore the ways in which advanced network applications, services, tools, and digital content can extend access to education and educational resources; and developing mechanisms for timely communication across all educational sectors and regions in order to enable quick, pervasive technology diffusion. see http://k20.internet2.edu
All public and non-public K-12 schools and public libraries located within Verizon's territory may use Access New Jersey (ANJ), an advanced telecommunications network. Verizon offers special Access New Jersey rates for N.J. K-12 schools and public libraries available through 2014. They offer free customer premise equipment for K-12 schools and public libraries that subscribe to ANJ so they can connect to the high-speed network and free video portal services providing interactive video capability (including multipoint conferences, gateway services and bridging to the commodity Internet). K-12 schools and libraries that participating in ANJ may apply for federal Universal Service Fund subsidies in addition to the special ANJ rates.
